Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What style of cakes do you make?

A. As a cake artist, i work with a variety of techniques and styles such as hand painting, sculpted cakes, modern abstract cakes, cakes decorated with sugar florals or sugar figures and also wafer paper elements. I only work on a fully iced 'canvas' which means all of my cakes are coated in an indulgent layer of white chocolate ganache for crisp edges, and then covered in fondant for a flawless finish. Buttercream finished cakes, including naked and semi-naked cakes are not finishes that I currently offer. Check out my Instagram to see some of my work, or check my availability here.

Q. Where are you based?

A. I work from my home based studio in Lisburn but serve the entire island of Ireland including Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland

Q. Are you registered with your local council.

A. Yes, i am registered with the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, have a 5* food hygiene rating and hold public liability insurance.

Q. How much does a wedding cake cost?

A. This is the million dollar question. Unfortunately there is no one sentence answer. The price of a wedding cake is as custom as your design itself. Pricing is affected by factors such as size, design and intricacy, sugar work, added elements and delivery distance. Reflected in the pricing is also the level of service and the "experience" factor dedicated to a wedding cake. As a creative, I spend a huge amount of my own creative energy creating custom design pieces. Also to be considered is the hours of time spent corresponding with my couples, venues, wedding planners and florists (if applicable). Included as standard in my wedding cake service is a one hour face to face or zoom (your preference) consultation with me to begin bringing your cake vision to life and one of my signature tasting boxes. A cake will never be "just" a cake in the Sweet and Lowe Cake Design kitchen. (I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing me say that, but I honestly can't stress it enough how hugely important cake is to me and any event or special day that I'm involved in). It is my goal that your cake will complement the theme of your wedding, reflect you as a couple, look too beautiful to cut, wow your guests, and of course taste amazing! As a guide, for 2023, my minimum order price for a wedding cake is £300 including a one hour consultation, a signature tasting box and delivery and set up within a 10 mile radius. Typically, my couples would spend on average between £450-£600+ for a custom designed wedding cake from me. Check my availability here or see my Wedding Cakes page for more information.

Q. How much does one of your special occasions cake cost?

A. The price of my custom special occasion cakes is affected by factors such as size, design, intricacy, sugar florals, and any added elements such as toppers etc so there is no one size fits all, however, for 2023 my special occasion cakes start from £85. This is the minimum order charge for a custom special occasion cake regardless of size. Typically, clients would spend on average between £150-£300+ for a custom special occasion cake from me. Check my availability here or see my Occasion Cakes page for more.

Q. How far in advance should i book in my cake?

A. My diary is open for bookings 2 years in advance. As i take on a maximum of 2 weddings per week, popular dates can be booked 1-2 years in advance, so the earlier the better. If you know that you would like me to make either your wedding cake or special occasion cake but you're unsure of what design you would like, thats totally fine, you can still secure your space in my diary with a booking fee. Q. Do you offer delivery?

A. Yes I do offer delivery and set up. Delivery is charged at a £20 base rate + £1 per mile both directions. Eg. Venue is 30 miles away from my location, delivery fee is £20 + £30 + £30 = £80 total delivery charge
